Project megapolis explained – Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara to merge.

Sri Lanka’s Western Province Megapolis project which will be merging the Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara districts, is to commence on January 29, 2016. The project is expected to be completed within fifteen years at a cost of Rs. 40 billion.
Speaking on the lines of the project, the Minister of Megapolis and Western Development Patali Champika Ranawaka stated that the urbanisation of cities has left Sri Lanka looking for answers to problems such as traffic congestion, garbage issues, slums, and environmental pollution. The minister brought to light the target of raising the per capita income of the country from $4,000 US to $12,000 US by the year 2030
